Sewing Studio

I'm a bit under the weather today for two reasons:

1. Back pain resulting from a 3-hr furniture assembling marathon
2. It's been snowing since last night and is currently zero degrees

Therefore, I shall blog!

I'm so excited to share some good news...the new sewing room is 95% complete! I would wait until it's 100%, but I can't.

140+ pound IKEA Expedit bookshelf...hence the back pain. I will never put together something this big by myself again. It was worth it though! All of my storage problems are solved!

The hot air balloon plate was my one frivolous purchase at IKEA. It makes me so happy! Also, a big thanks to JT's Nana for graciously giving me the beautiful blue Pyrex bowls. I've always wanted a set!

I love the cubby holes and top for storing all of my cute nick nacks! The typewriter (from JT's aunt Jess) and "SEW" blocks are probably my favorite cubby.

This wall still needs some decorating...Beatrice looks a little lonely over there. I think there are some wall quilts in the works :)

I got these two cute bird hooks from Mast (left) and Goodwill (right). They're perfect for hanging my project bags. A TJ Max metal trash can holds wrapping paper and batting, and a cute dumpster dive has been re-painted.

Christmas lights and simple photo boxes from Michael's (on sale for $2) keep the closet cute but not cluttered.

I'm temporarily using a piece of batting in the closet for a design wall (this is my latest quilt, an adorable Churn Dash). Eventually, it will be a cute little reading nook. I found an armchair for $35 and a big bag of upholstery fabric samples ($1) at a thrift store. I'm nervous/excited to start that project, with my mom's more experienced hands by my side.

This adorable pink owl rug was only $40 at Ikea, and it feels as great as it looks!

Simple spice racks ($3.99 ea) from Ikea make great resting places for scissors, rotary cutters, buttons, washing tape, and writing utensils...all in mason jars of course!

I couldn't resist this teal ironing board that I found at a thrift store. Or the rainbow craft cart that FINALLY went on sale at Michael's a few months ago! I plan on allowing my thrift store plate collection to grow...

$1 metal tray from Goodwill holds all my thread. The cute little chicken pin cushion was a great stocking stuffer! Way to go mom!

JT's mom and sister found this blue magazine cabinet at a thrift store and gave it to me for Christmas. It's going to be a wonderful companion when I'm hand quilting. I think I "borrowed" the pink metal tub from my mom ;)

The dark brown piece is the dresser for our bedroom, and a temporary cutting table. JT plans on starting on the permanent one tomorrow. It will be similar to the IKEA bookshelves, but will be the right height for cutting.

I totally adore my new creative happy place, and it ended up feeling a lot bigger than I thought it would!

On another note, my parents have a contract on an AWESOME house about 20 minutes away. We're praying that everything goes well, and they close within a month or so. I can't wait to help mom decorate her new house, especially the sewing room. JT's also very excited to get to work with dad on many projects around the house/barn.

Happy Monday!

  1. Your room looks fantastic! I love the cheery rug and your plan for a reading nook. I stole a comfy armchair from my guest room and put it in sewing room. My teenager and I fight over sitting in it. Your iKEA buys are great for storage. Job well done. I am visiting from We Did It Wednesday.
