Making Mistakes

I know that my last post was very focused on the beginning of the quilting process. I hate to dwell on the subject, but I thought I'd share another one of my early quilts. It was a fiasco.

I was 5 hours from everyone I knew (except for my husband). I was jobless. I was hobby less. I was miserable. So I got it in my head that I would drive an hour and a half to the fabric store, pull out the old sewing machine from the closet, and make my second ever quilt.

I found a fun print that I liked and matched a bunch of solids and tone-on-tone prints to it, then set out to make a chevron quilt.

I love the colors and the pattern, but because of my limited knowledge/experience, my technique was utterly lacking.

Apparently many beginners lose hope after attempting HST's for the first time. But I didn't let it get me down.

Very few of my seams actually matched up, the backing is puckered in a few places, and after washing the completed quilt I discovered several seams that had come apart.

Needless to say, this quilt was a pretty shabby second attempt, but it is still very loved :)
