Welcome to Honey Bee Quilt Co.!!!

Hello friends!

Today is the day that I finally reveal the blog! I look forward to hearing from you all, and hope I can keep posting on a (semi) daily basis! If there is anything you would like to learn about quilting (or myself) please feel free to ask! I can at least point you in the right direction to tutorials, expos, magazines, or other blogs. Helping you learn forces me to learn as well, so your comments are welcome :)

Let me share a little bit about my story with you. I grew up in a very creative family. Singing, sewing, painting, building. We were constantly creating. My mother loved to sew her own clothes during high school and college, and my grandmother could sew and smock like a queen. Despite mom's suggestions, I never took much to sewing. I was capable, but not willing. So I stuck with my music and writing.

Then, about a year ago, I decided to make my boyfriend (now husband) something special for Christmas and my mom suggested a quilt. I had no idea what I was getting into. We decided to make a queen-size, classic log cabin quilt. Despite the frustrating, repetitive, and painstakingly long process, we  fell in love. The quilt turned out beautifully and it set a spark in us to make more quilts. For my mom, that spark slowly and steadily grew as the winter died and spring came up. Her patience is much greater than mine with these things. My spark, on the other hand, did not grow until one day in June when it ignited into a blaze. I immediately drove an hour and a half to Hancock Fabrics and purchased some beautiful solids and prints for my second attempt at a quilt. I call it an attempt because I made many rookie mistakes and had to mend many unravelled seams.

Even though my second piece of work (which was just that...not sure if I'd call it art per say) did not turn out quite as I'd hoped, I stuck it out and went crazy over quilts. I fell in love with quilt shops, books, blogs, artists, etc. Now here I am, 3 months later, up to my eyeballs in ideas. My fabric stash is obscure, my skill is lacking, and my time is consumed with work and school. Who knows if I'll even get to touch my machine until Thanksgiving. I'm still holding out hope though :)

One last word and then I will be finished. If you have an uncanny love of quilts, a knack for putting together colors and patterns, have no sewing experience at all, or just need a hobby, I challenge you to look into quilting. Start reading blogs, searching pinterest, checking out books from the library. It might seem daunting at first, but I assure you, if I can be a quilter, so can you.

Go, create.
