This morning I attended Quiltology 101 with Marty Moon, while mom was in a hand appliqué class. We had a fun group of ladies, and I learned a lot of valuable information! I must harp on one thing, so please excuse me. Marty introduced us to this WONDERFUL piece of magic called a Seams Easy ruler. For those of you who are just getting started, get ready to make lots and lots of half-square triangles. Hang in there, it will get easier. Especially thanks to this little tool. It's a 1/2" by 12" ruler, with a 1/4" laser line down the center. It is used commonly to make half-square triangles, but also for marking quarter-inch seams. It really comes in handy! I used highlighter tape on mine so that it's easier to keep up with.
After class I decided to give the Exhibit Hall a second chance while I waited for mom to finish. It was a good decision. I had a memory card this time, so I took lots of pictures, gained countless inspiration, and did a little shopping.
Here are some of my favorite shots of the day :)
This quilt won best in show.
Shopping!!!
I got a lot of inspiration from this one!!!
After lunch, mom and I went to a class called 15 Minutes of Play. If you haven't looked at Victoria Findlay Wolfe's website, you need to check it out! She also has a book called 15 Minutes of Play that is really neat. She taught us to let go a little and make something a little less planned. She uses a process that she learned from her grandmother. Here are a few of her quilts that were on display.
These two are from the same quilt.
And these are pictures from class!!! We got to use scraps from her personal collection :)
The highlight of my day has to be the Quilt Walk with Mary Fons, daughter of Marianne Fons of Fons & Porter magazines. It was so neat to hear her stories, and what each quilt meant to her. Not to mention she was one of very few women in my age group ;) If you are a BEGINNER and you want to learn all the basics, then go watch Mary's videos at www.heyquilty.com
Mary and I in front of her quilt, Churn Dash.
We also got to have a nice long chat with Jean this afternoon!
Day 2 was a success!!!!!
