This morning we drove to the Cobb Galleria and I could feel the excitement growing. I had butterflies in my tummy for sure. Nevertheless, I held my head high and walked into the fray, armed with my new owl bag from Old Navy.
We started the morning off in the Amish Buggy Wheel class, taught by Love of Quilting editor Jean Nolte. We sewed our first curved seams, which had previously been a source of terror. But we did it, and boy were we relieved! Here is a picture of mine. When I saw the pattern it made me think of sunflowers, so I decided to think outside the box and try a different color pallet. I combined 18 yellows, 4 blues, and a brown polka dot to make my wheels, and the result was a bright, fun piece.
Stay tuned for a picture of mom's. I want to wait until she has her finished project because she also put a little twist on the pattern.
We left class to go to the exhibit hall, which I must admit was very overwhelming. There was so much to see and do! But I discovered that I'd left my memory card at home, so I put the camera away and focused on taking it all in. Later in the afternoon I stopped by the Make It Center to learn how to make a Trendy Chevron Tote, under the supervision of Jean. She is very personable, and always gives her students those little tips that could make a huge difference in a project. Later on we got to chat with her for a while, but I won't go into that :)
My finished product!
Today was very overwhelming, and there were times when I though "why did I choose this hobby?" But I love it too much to let myself feel defeated. Get ready for Day #2!!!!
