Last year I ordered some charm squares in lovely blues and greens. The patterns were so unique and vibrant and I just couldn't wait to use them up! So I combined them with fabrics from my stash, made almost a hundred half square triangles, and started lining them up on my design wall. I just didn't have enough to make the pattern I wanted.
Recently I got the idea to revisit my HST's, thinking that I surely had enough squares to make two much smaller baby quilts. I decided to make two different patterns so that the quilts would coordinate but not be exactly the same. The one on the left is a simple zig zag pattern, with no real pattern as far as color or value. The quilting is also in a zig zag.
The one on the right has a lot of "patterns" in it. It is made up of concentric diamonds, alternating between colored and monochromatic triangles. The monochromatic diamonds use alternating grey and white triangles. The quilting is also pretty unique, but you can't really see it in the pictures.
The light for pictures wasn't great but I think they turned out alright. Look at those elephants!!!!! You can also see better detail of the quilting in these two pics ;) Usually I stick with hand quilting on my bigger quilts because they won't fit through my machine. It takes forever and drives me crazy, but it does look good. On my baby quilts, however, I do get to quilt on the machine. Which is super fast and fabulous!!!
I'll try to keep more posted as I finish preparing for GAF but if you don't hear from me until then...be ready for a BIG update and lots of pictures afterwards. I can't wait to let you all know how it goes!
Cheers!
Lucy Beth
