I was very excited to make this beauty because it was my first commission quilt! I have heard quilters say that they don't like making commission quilts, because their creative vision often clashes with the customer's. However, I absolutely loved it! I felt much more motivated and passionate knowing that this quilt would bring a little comfort to someone who really needs it right now. For more on the story behind this quilt, visit my personal blog: http://lucybeth7.blogspot.com/2013/09/creature-comforts.html
Because I have such a passion for quilting, I often get ahead of myself. I want to try new patterns and design my own. But lately I have made a point of getting back to the basics. Every day I try to learn more simple techniques which, when applied properly, can greatly improve even the simplest quilts.
I have been struggling lately with binding my quilts. It is so excited to bind a quilt, because not only does it mean that you are finished, it also frames the piece of art that you've just completed. But there is nothing more disappointing than messy binding. It isn't easy to catch both sides of the binding with your stitches, especially when using a machine (and who has time for hand binding?).
So I did some research on Pinterest (a great source for sewing and quilting techniques) and found the golden ticket to a perfect binding!
Unfortunately, I failed to document the binding process on this quilt. But If you're looking for a great tutorial, try this one for The Haby Goddess blog. It made my binding experience so much easier...and prettier!
